2017 Summer Intern Scholarship Winner Announced
Congrats to Alexandria Barnes, winner of a $5,000 scholarship! Alexandria was one of 23 2017 summer interns at Arkansas Blue Cross and Shield. As a University of Arkansas at Little Rock student pursuing her Master’s degree in Professional and Technical Writing, Alexandria assisted our Financial Information Systems and Non-Risk Billings Financial Services division with documenting manuals as our company adopted a new human resources software program. She stood out among her peers after excellent performance reviews, presentations and a compelling written statement.
Alexandria’s experience, in her own words:
“When I first started interning at Arkansas Blue Cross, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I studied Spanish as an undergrad, and though I had some writing experience, this was my first real chance to do technical writing.
In just a short amount of time, I learned so much about this field. My main project has been assisting in the re-writing of job descriptions in Workday. This project challenged me to think outside of the box and allowed me to utilize my research skills to learn more about accounting and finance jobs in the industry.
During my internship, I also worked on writing and editing manuals for various accounting processes in our department. The work definitely kept me busy, but I really enjoy it. I’m thankful to have gotten a chance to participate in this internship program and also be a part of the Arkansas Blue Cross family!”
In its fourth year, our intern program has had 85 participants from schools around the state. All students are paid competitive wages during the 10-week program and have the opportunity to apply for the scholarship.
We welcome diverse students with a variety of interests and career goals. To learn more about the program, follow us on LinkedIn where we’ll be posting stories from interns and important dates for next year’s class.
