Group registration deadline is February 14, contest begins March 1
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (February 6, 2017) — Each year the Blue & You Fitness Challenge attracts hundreds of groups from across the country to participate in its three-month competition. Businesses use the free event to supplement their worksite wellness programs, while churches, schools and other community groups participate as a way to strengthen the health of their networks and members. The last day for groups to register for the challenge is February 14, 2017.
Groups who sign up will compete against similarly sized groups. They’re also encouraged to single out a group they know and invite them to participate in a friendly #FitnessThrowdown. To win, the teams earn points by logging exercises and activity at blueandyoufitnesschallenge-ark.com. Points are displayed on the website’s leaderboard so participants can watch their standings rise with hard work. Winners (with the most points) will be announced after the competition ends on May 31.
The goal of the contest is to encourage active living by adding cardiovascular exercises into weekly routines. The 2017 event is hosted by Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Human Services and is endorsed by a number of large healthfocused organizations and initiatives in the state, including:
- Healthy Active Arkansas and
- Arkansas Center for Health Improvement
During an annual, end-of-contest survey, one participant commented, “The three-month logging is extremely helpful in motivating me, even when I want to ease off.” Another reported, “It helped me a lot. I found out during the contest that I had diabetes and it pushed me to exercise even more.”
To help motivate employees, friends or family to live a healthier life, group leaders can register online at blueandyoufitnesschallenge-ark.com until February 14. Group members will need to register by February 28. Individuals who want to participate but don’t have a work team or community group may register under the team, Me, Myself and I Workout, using the group code: workout. The competition begins March 1.
